Called into Unity

This coming Friday is National Sorry Day.

It is a day where we acknowledge the struggle Indigenous people have had in Australia over the 200+ years since 1788.

As Christians we need to acknowledge when we individually, or collectively as a nation, have hurt others. For God’s call in our life is to offer others the love of God through Jesus Christ; a love that calls us into unity.

One of the first ways of bringing unity is confession (saying sorry). As a community we need to acknowledge that Aboriginal people have been dispossessed of land and culture and that as a nation saying sorry is a good start.

Jesus, in Mathew 5:23-24, encourages us to reconcile with our brothers and sisters.

May we as a church and a community use National Sorry Day as a pathway to reconciliation and Christ-like living.

Blessings,

Richard
